DEREK DOBBIE - A PROFILE

My interest in photography grew from an early age. I was lucky that the High School I went to  in East Kilbride, was one of the first to have a darkroom built in the science block. It was fully equipped with three enlargers, safelights, cylinders, thermometers and everything else required to develop & print your b/w negative film. I dabbed in Colour and transparency developing ( cibachrome anyone..? ), but my first love was and still is black & white.  How I miss the environment of the darkroom......

Things have moved on from then. The school is still their, just, but the darkroom has been replaced with a lab with computers and what not. Its not the same. Though obviously I use a computer now to run my web site I do get bored after a while and switch off. I don't really care for the digital manipulation side of photography. I do use filters and other accessories but at the taking stage. Give me a digital filter with a polarizer effect. It cant be done......

On leaving school I worked for a wedding studio in Glasgow, Studio Scotland, but that side of Photography didn't interest me and I think they knew it as I only lasted about three months.....moving on to Photography retail and then processing which is were I found my real interest. Leaving their I moved on to freelance, specialising in Travel, Landscape and Nature Photography. I do commercial undertakings on the above fields but I have no interest in wedding/portraiture ventures.

I have a agency in London that handles some of my work but mostly I promote it myself. I have well over 10,000 images on both transparency and now digital media. The images on this web site are but a fraction of the images I have. Perhaps I should publish a book......any publishers interested, well you know how to contact me....EMAIL......?
